My greatest asset

Oh, I am so loving The Leaders Role as they sure like to challenge us and really make us dig deep and get us use to writing articles and blog posts – this weeks’ assignment was to write about “What is your greatest asset”

I was so stumped by this and had a chat with Kris and him knowing I love my gardens ask me to just go out to my gardens and think about it. Well, I did and I listened to the birds sing to me and thought about what are my assets – I looked around at my house, my gardens, my barn, my vehicle, etc. and then thought about my family, my friends, but you know what I discovered was that all these things happened in my life because of “Me” and my determination.

Growing up, I always heard from my family that I would never amount to anything and just be content being a mill rat like the rest of the family. Well, determined to prove them wrong, I made sure that I got the education that would get me a different job. Then I became a single parent right after high school and it was my determination to keep my son – keeping in mind that when I was in high school – people went to unwed mother’s home and gave up their kids for adoption. After having my son, I was also determined to work and support him so I worked 3rd shift so my Aunt could take care of him while I worked and then I took care of him during the day and slept when he took his nap.

Well, we all make decisions that we have to learn to live with and I made one that for 10 years I had to live with and that was living with an abusive husband – BUT I was determined that someday I would be free of him. That day finally came, when we ran out of gas in our vehicle and got stranded in WI – and my 1st husband got arrested and was shipped back to NC. Once again I was determined to be free of him finally and got a fresh start in a strange town – so moved on.

Met my 2nd husband going back to school, and together we started a landscaping company from scratch – again determined to keep the business growing and growing – I let the business consume me and my personal life. Then 25 years later, after building a successful business, my ex and I realized that the business was the only thing that we shared anymore – so we divorced.

AGAIN, determined to move on with my life, I set out to make a new single life for me and my friends ask me Nancy how can you put in the hours that you do? Well, once again it’s determination as you see I have a dream – I have goals that I have set for myself and I keep going as I know that I’m going to get there – it’s not if I’m going to get there – it’s just when.

Don’t get me wrong, I have my days that I think why in the world do you keep on with all the hours, not much personal time, and even have my doubts about if it’s really going to happen – but you know what – All of a sudden I’ll get an email from a member of one of my sites that says thanks for your help, email from another friends that says the banner I made her is working great, another email from another saying it’s nice to have an honest site owner that shows she cares – and what happens – I get back up on my horse that I fell off of and onward I go – it’s all those things that tells me that this is why I do what I do and I get even more determined.

So when life knocks you off that horse, get back up shake off all the negative thoughts and get back on that horse keep going – DETERMINATION

I’d like to share a few of my favorite quote……….

“Failure will never overtake me if my determination to succeed is strong enough.”
“You’ve got to get up every morning with determination if you’re going to go to bed with satisfaction.”
“We must remember that one determined person can make a significant difference, and that a small group of determined people can change the course of history.”
